Spatial Architects Wins First Place in NESCO MCC Design Competition 2024

NESCO MCC Design Competition 2024

Spatial Architects has secured the top position in the prestigious NESCO MCC Design Competition 2024, organized by the Institute of Architects Bangladesh (IAB). The competition invited proposals for the design of the Main Control Center (MCC) and Headquarter Building for the Northern Electricity Supply Company PLC (NESCO) in Rajshahi City.

The winning proposal by Spatial Architects envisions a thoughtfully integrated urban campus that responds to both the practical and environmental needs of its users. The design unfolds in three distinct phases: retention of existing structures, a new five-storied MCC block, and a future 10-storied MCC extension alongside the future Head Office and a dedicated parking facility.

At the heart of the proposal is the creation of a central community plaza, inspired by the calm and green character of Rajshahi. This space will function as a connecting element between the old and new structures, forming a cohesive urban ensemble. The architectural strategy also emphasizes climatic responsiveness, ensuring that all buildings contribute to a sustainable and adaptable environment.
The design reflects a balance of modern utility and contextual sensitivity, drawing from traditional urban design principles to deliver a long-lasting public asset.
