The proposed head office for Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) symbolizes the dynamic relation between mass and energy through a cracked wall façade that allows daylight and visual interaction. The design prioritizes environmental response over ornamentation due to the small, linear site at Sher-E-Bangla Nagar, Dhaka, with a west-facing lake and height restrictions.
Key features include:
• Green Design: Targeting international green building certification (e.g., USGBC).
• Form & Environment: Building mass shaped by sun path, wind, daylight, and west-facing heat protection using louvers.
• Urban Scale: Facade elements designed to establish a strong presence and landmark identity.
• Smart Gardens: Interactive terraces on multiple floors providing work, social, and relaxation space.
• Energy Efficiency: Solar panel pergolas supply renewable energy while bringing filtered daylight.
The project aims to accommodate BERC’s activities in a sustainable, tropical-vernacular architecture that balances symbolism, environmental responsiveness, and modern workplace needs.
