Naimul Ahsan & Farzana Rahman Shared Learnings from the Re-envisioning Andarkilla Shahi Jame Mosque Design Competition
A thought-provoking session was held at the Berger Seminar Hall of the Institute of Architects Bangladesh (IAB), where Spatial Architects, led by Mohammad Naimul Ahsan Khan and Farzana Rahman, presented their Second Prize–winning proposal for the “Re-envisioning Andarkilla Shahi Jame Mosque” Design Competition.
Part of the “An Intellectual Exchange” series, the event gathered architects, academics, and students to discuss contemporary approaches to sacred architecture. Spatial Architects proposed a bold yet respectful reinterpretation of the mosque, emphasizing spatial purity, urban relevance, and heritage sensitivity.
Curated by Professor Sazid bin Doza, the evening featured reviews, open discussions, and participation from Ar. Kazi Nasir, former Chief Architect of Bangladesh. Presentations by Age & Edge Architects (First Prize) and Form 3 Architects (Third Prize) also enriched the dialogue on preserving spiritual identity through modern design.
